One Day Sale

I am sure that all of you have seen a Macy’s commercial that is similar to this one. They advertise the “One Day Sale” and make shoppers believe that is it THE ONE DAY where items in the store are on sale. If you miss it, the deals will be gone and you will  have to wait until there is another one day sale. The thing that they don’t tell you is that EVERY day at Macy’s is a sale day.

This year has been the year of weddings for me and Matt. We have traveled to South Bend (twice), Boston (twice), Vermont, Chicago and Ohio. The weddings have all been extremely inspiring to us, as we start to plan our own wedding. We are so lucky to have so many great friends to show us the ropes and support us as we enter into the next phase of our relationship and life.

Along with inspiration comes the wedding gifts. I LOVE going registry gift shopping. It is always interesting to see what people chose for plates, knives, bakeware, sheets, towels and coffee makers. Nearly everyone registers at Macy’s, and quite frankly, how can you blame them. You can register for EVERYTHING at Macy’s and with their 365 different One Day Sales, your guests can get some fabulous deals. And your purchases help to support to world’s best parade. It is a win-win.

A few months ago, I went online to buy a present for one of the weddings. I saw that their china was buy 2 pieces, get a third free. So I decided to order 3 pieces for them. Unfortunately, when I added these items to my online shopping basket, the deal was not applied. I promptly called customer service and asked to speak to someone who could solve my problem. While she was working on it, I found a coupon code online that earned me an additional 15% off AND free shipping. Then when my customer service rep came back, she told me that she fixed the problem and that I would get a free bowl for everyone ONE I ordered. Well, that wasn’t a deal I was going to question. In all, I ended up ordering nearly 600 dollars of china and paid only 150 dollars. SICK!

Today I went back to Macy’s to buy another wedding present. With very little effort, I found a toaster and a waffle iron that we both on sale (20% off), did a google search for a free shipping coupon and happily made my purchase. I ended up saving over 120 dollars.

Honestly, I think I should quit my job and become a personal wedding present shopping. Obviously, I have a gift :)

Sweat It Out

This week has been a little lacking in “the little things.” I am not sure if it is due to my recent 3 week wedding bender, one final fight from fall allergies, or the start of cold and flu season that gets dragged in my the slobbering 4 year olds that I spend my day with. Whatever the case, I have been feeling very run-down all week. Today was really no different.

I returned from work and made some delicious tomato-basil soup (see recipe at the bottom of the post). After finishing the soup, I decided to watch a movie (Letters to Juliette – not a big fan). Not surprisingly I fell asleep midway through the movie and awoke to a phone call from Matt informing me that he was on his way home. Earlier in the day Matt asked me if I wanted to participate in a spin class that evening with him, and I decided that this might be a good way to get me out of my funk.

Well, the first time that Matt asked me to do a spin workout with him, I was psyched. We are fortunate enough to have a gym in our building, and they do offer some group classes but the selection is limited. So when Matt told me that we could do a spin class one evening, I was pleasantly surprised. That is, until I walked into the gym to find out that there was no class… the instructor was going to be Matt and I was going to be his pupil. After a sub-par workout, I decided that from that point on, I needed to take charge. Since that time, I have slowly taken control of the spin class instructing.

Tonight was no different. I took charge for the first 18 minutes of our 30 minute class and quickly worked myself into a full-blown sweat. I can’t even pretend that I was “glistening” like a lady; I was sweating. And while I was hacking up a lung the entire time, it felt good. I was sweating out my funk.

At the end of the night, I ended feeling a lot better with a delicious grilled cheese and tomato soup dinner. Man I love comfort food!

First Dance

I first heard of this singer when my friend danced her first dance with her new husband a few weeks ago. While I enjoyed the song choice, I didn’t really follow the lyrics too carefully. I was too “in the moment” – even though it was Casey and Emily moment! It wasn’t until last week when I truly appreciated the words of the song and JUST how appropriate they were for
Emily. At the end of the season premiere of Brothers & Sisters, they played this song:

I am now in love with James Morrison. He has an extremely calming style that is perfect to listen to at work. Using my favorite tool, grooveshark, I typed in the singer, James Morrison, and created a playlist consisting of all of his songs. Listening to music certainly makes my work day better.

Matt and I haven’t decided on a wedding song yet. Today I was giving him suggestions of songs that are all pretty typical: Its Your Love, by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Better Together by Jack Johnson, and Always by Aerosmith. Here is Matt’s response:

Matt:  the tim mcgraw one is good
Matt: but it’s a little too over played
Matt:  i feel like i always hear that song
Matt:  i like this one

What a great suggestion! During our weekend in the Hamptons, I am pretty sure we listened to this song upwards of 200 times. At least Matt would be able to sing the lyrics to me as we slowly turn in circles (yes, we dance like 7th graders at a school dance).

Right now, Matt and I are in the middle of wedding palooza; we attending a wedding last weekend in Chicago, we have a wedding this weekend in Ohio, a wedding in 2 weeks in Marblehead, MA and the grand finale, a wedding the second weekend in November in Long Island (thankfully, no traveling!)

I LOVE weddings. Even before Matt and I got engaged I found them truly inspiring. To witness two people making such an awesome commitment to each other is an incredible thing. And now that we are planning our own wedding, it means that much more. I can’t wait to celebrate this weekend.
