Buying maternity clothes is the worst. I know, they’ve gotten a lot better in the past 20-30 year (you should see the stuff my mom wore) but the whole process is frustrating. Let me be the first to say, I do not look as fashionable as these ladies.
First and foremost, who wants to buy clothes when they are gaining weight? Even if it is because you are growing a tiny human inside of you, it is still depressing.
Second, a lot of stores have started carrying maternity lines (LOFT, H&M, Zara) however they are almost exclusively online. Which isn’t that big a deal until they come and you realize that nothing fits right because, well, you’ve never shopped for pants with giant elastic bands on them before, or shirts that can accommodate a basketball. Plus, if you are like me, you wait until the last possible moment to decide you need something, so then having to deal with shipping doesn’t really work.
Third, they are pricey. Even if you buy things at Target, the idea of buying something that you will probably only wear for 4 months, is annoying.
Fourth, nothing fits right. Your body is changing nearly every day so it is hard to find things that are a perfect fit. Plus, nothing will fit you the same way things did when you weren’t pregnant. So your typical “g-to” style of pant of neck line probably doesn’t work so well anymore. And can we talk about accommodating a growing chest? This something I’ve never had to think about before and it is a pain. I have a new-found respect for those ladies who are more well-endowed up top!
Lastly, men are instantly drawn to you. I mean, who doesn’t find this attractive?
As my tummy expands, I’ve been spending more time in a pair of men’s size large sweatpants and Matt’s t-shirts. Think that is work appropriate?
