Friday Afternoon Round Up

Today’s roundup is a little light – I’ve been spending much of my time on the internet looking for a new apartment so I don’t have too many links to share (unless you want to see lots of two bedroom apartments in Brooklyn).

Enjoy!

This is Today with Matt Lauer and…

So with the news that Ann Curry is out, come the question of who is in? Here are my predictions for who could possibly be joining Matt on the tan couch to great America as they start their day:

Natalie Moralas

Currently, Natalie serves as the news anchor on the Today Show (Ann Curry’s previous role). She has been with the Today Show since 2006, when she started as a National Correspondent before being named co-anchor of the third hour of the show in March 2008. Natalie would be a safe choice but I am not sure she bring enough “spunk” to the set.

Savannah Guthrie

Reported to have been offered the role already, Savannah is clearly the favorite to take on the co-hosting role. After serving as a White House correspondent from 2008 and 2011 and as co-anchor of the MSNBC program The Daily Rundown from 2010 and 2011. Guthrie joined NBC in September 2007 as a legal analyst and correspondent, regularly reporting on trials throughout the country. At the same time that Ann took on the role of co-host, Guthrie was announced as the co-host of Today’s third hour alongside Natalie Morales and Al Roker. In that role she also substitutes as news anchor and main co-host, and appears as the Chief Legal Analyst across all NBC platforms.

Personally, I am not a huge Savannah fan. I think she bring a lot of the same nervous/awkward energy that Ann brought to the set.

Hoda Kotb

Another name that has been thrown around by the press is Hoda Kotb, the co-host of Today Show’s fourth (and arguable horrible) hour. Hoda joined Kathy Lee in 2007 in this role, where they sit around, drink wine and talk about “soft news.” While Hoda does have a background  in reporting hard news, I personally think she has tarnished her credibility and seriousness with her ridiculous antics on the fourth hour of the today show.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck

Elisabeth first entered the spotlight as a contestant on Survivor: The Australian Outback back in 2001. Currently,  she is a co-host on the daytime talk show The View and is a contributor to the ABC morning broadcast Good Morning America. While this is a rival to the Today Show, I think she would be a strong addition to the struggling NBC show. And even though her political views don’t align with mine, I think she brings an interesting perspective to things and I can see her and Matt working well together.

So who is your pick to cozy up next to Matt? I’m sure we will find out soon enough!

So Long Ann

While it is no secret that I am happy with this news, it doesn’t make it any easier for the people involved. So long Ann. No one can say you didn’t give it your all.

Ann Curry Announce New Role at NBC

And so the search begins for a new host to sit with Matt every morning. I hope that NBC doesn’t rush into anything, which I believe is how they got themselves into this mess in the first place.

Falling Apart

Please forgive my absence over the past week. It is all because I am falling apart – literally.

Last Monday morning I woke up in Nantucket to the sun rising over the ocean. By Monday afternoon, I was laying on the doctor’s table at my dermatologist’s office getting “abnormal” cells removed. What I thought would be a simple procedure turned into 90 minute, 12 stitched and 2 weeks recovery. Yuck.

By Friday afternoon, I found myself in the dentist’s chair, getting my third wisdom tooth yanked out. Even though I was numb I was fully awake and conscious as my dentists pulled, drilled and pulled some more for a full 45 minutes. As th afternoon thunderstorms rolled through Manhattan, it made for quite the dramatic scene.

Matt spend the weekend in Las Vegas for his buddy’s bachelor party while I spent the weekend watching 3 seasons worth of Breaking Bad, doing arts and crafts and nursing myself back to health. Marriage is incredible.

So let’s all take a moment to blame Matt. Clearly it is his fault for my lack of blogging. Him and the fact that I am old and falling apart.

Nantucket Recap

For our anniversary, Matt surprised me with a trip to Nantucket. I was not expecting a weekend away, so it was quite a pleasant surprise.

We flew into Nantucket airport, which feels much more like a country club than an airport, on Friday morning. We stayed at the  Cliffside Beach Club which captured the preppy New England seaside feel to a tee. It was the absolute perfect place for a romantic, relaxing weekend trip.

Neither one of us had ever been to Nantucket before, so Matt relied on advice from our friend Laura. We loved everything that she suggested and I am happy to pass it along to you here!

DAY ONE:
After checking into our hotel (it was amazing, our room was ready at 9:30am!) we walked into town and decided to rent bikes from Young’s Bike Shop for the entire weekend. We rode around for a little bit trying to get a feel for the town before heading over the Something Natural, the most amazing sandwich shop and bakery. We decided to take our lunches to go and have a picnic at the base of one of the few lighthouses on the island, Brandt Point. After lunch we walked around town for a little and then spent the afternoon hanging out around the pool at our hotel (where I proceeded to get burned…). For dinner, we rode our bikes back to down and had a trendy/fancy Dinner at The Pearl.

DAY TWO
We woke up and had breakfast at the hotel on the beach. After relaxing for a bit, and a quick run, we rode our bikes into town and went to Provisions for ham and cheese sandwiches before heading out the Cisco Brewery for the afternoon. While here, we enjoyed the music from two different local bands and enjoyed the island’s finest beer and wine. We returned to town for a casual dinner at Brotherhood of Thieves. We ended the night with a quick (hey, we are old) trip to the local dive bar, The Chicken Box.

DAY THREE:
One our last full day, we ate breakfast on the beach again before heading into town. We decided to turn in our bikes for a scooter. Yup, that’s right, a moped. We wanted to get out a bit further so decided this was a good option. After a couple test rides around the block, we strapped on our helmets and set out for Sconset. The ride was chilly but we made it there in one piece. After walking down to Sconset Beach we had a quick lunch at Claudette’s Catering, one of the 4 places of business in this small town. After lunch we stopped by to see Sankaty Lighthouse before returning back to town. We did a little shopping and then returned to the hotel. We got in a quick workout before a romantic sunset dinner at the restaurant right next to our hotel, Galley Beach.

We woke up very early Monday morning for our flight back and were back in NYC by 8am.

The weekend was relaxing and fun and I always enjoy going to a place where 75% of the people are wearing a Red Sox hat/shirt/sweatshirt. I’m already looking forward to our next trip back to Nantucket!
