The First Post

So I decided to start a blog. I know, how original.

After watching the movie Julie and Julia, not only did I solidify the love I already felt for Amy Adams, but I decided that blogging wasn’t as weird as I had originally thought. Now, I don’t know if what I have to say is worth reading, or even if it is, who will read this blog, but I thought I would do it anyway.

The goal of my newly created blog is to “focus on the little things.” Living in New York City, it is easy to get caught up in the speed of the city and worry about the daily stresses of life. For the past year, I have wasted a lot of time and energy focusing on the stress and frustration of my life. Over the weekend, I came to realize that the “positive mental attitude” (or PMA) that I was raised with, has slowly dissolved.

Why is it so easy to spend so much time anguishing over life’s frustrations? In truth, I have an amazing life. I recently got engaged to my high school sweet heart and best friend. And he is amazing. And while my job is the root of much of my stress and negativity, I am employed and it could be a whole lot worse. I have an incredible relationship with my parents and my older sister is the best role model anyone could ask for. I am healthy and, when I stop to think about, happy.

So what’s the problem, you ask. In all of the NYC craziness, I have lost my focus. I have become obsessed with the things in my life that I wish I could change, so much so that I don’t take time to be thankful for all of the wonderful things that I wouldn’t change for anything. So the goal of this blog is to take a few minutes, each day, week or month, to focus on the little things. The things that make life so great.

So what are these little things, you ask. A few examples that come to mind: receiving the newest issue of Real Simple in my mailbox, a new song by the cast of Glee on iTunes, running in Central Park, or a new arts and crafts project.

While this is a self-motivated blog, I am hoping that what followers I do have, will gain happiness and knowledge from these little things. Don’t get me wrong, I am not looking to write the next self-help book; I am just hoping to revive my PMA and focus on the little things.

So please, follow along, post a comment, and enjoy!
